The Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) wants to hear from you!

Whether you receive social care, feel you should receive social care, support a loved one who receives social care or are passionate about social care – the HSCP wants to hear your say on proposed changes to Self-Directed Support charges.

It is the responsibility of the HSCP to make sure that people have information to understand what support is available to them and support them to make a choice that best suits their needs. Self-Directed Support (SDS) is a form of social care that puts people at the centre of their care and lets them choose between four choices once their care package has been determined:

Option 1 – The supported person gets a direct payment of their care package and they can hire staff/goods and services.

Option 2 – The supported person decides what support they want and the HSCP organises it for them.

Option 3 – The HSCP organises and arranges support.

Option 4 – A mixture of the above options.

It’s important that we hear from everyone who lives in West Dunbartonshire who these proposed changes may affect. We’re hosting two public sessions in Clydebank and Dumbarton in October to make that happen:

29th October 2024 / Clydebank Town Hall / 1PM-3.30PM

30th October 2024 / Concord Community Centre, Dumbarton / 2PM-4:30PM

Please note spaces are limited for each session and it will be a first come, first serve basis. Light refreshments will be available on the day. If you have any questions about the sessions, please email:

Update 7 November 2024

The HSCP is pleased to announce that the partner and public consultants held in October were successful in gathering in-depth feedback from the communities who live and work in West Dunbartonshire. We recognise that there were people who wanted to take part but were unable to go to the sessions and we're using this feedback to reach out to our wider staff team and the general public for their feedback via a survey.

Once all responses have been collected and reporting has been completed, the Senior Management Team (SMT) will consider the recommendations made for the policy based off of the feedback we received. Using the evidence provided, SMT will pass on their recommendations to Performance Management Review Group (PMRG) who will also use the evidence alongside the opinions of SMT to consider the proposed changes. After agreeing recommendations, the PMRG will pass their findings to the Elected Members of the Council to debate and consider the recommendations. The final decision for what recommendations are passed goes to the Integrated Joint Board approximately March time using the recommendation reports supplied by SMT, PMRG and the Elected Members of the Council.

This page will remain updated and will continue to update to indicate what stage of the process the proposal is currently at and where it's due to go next. Our next steps include:
