Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Partnerships are asking what a Scotland without violence against women and girls would look like, as they take part in 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

It is estimated that 1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence mostly by an intimate partner. In West Dunbartonshire, we are currently the fourth local authority in Scotland with the most Domestic Abuse incidents reported to Police Scotland per 10,000 population.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign for global actions to increase awareness, galvanise advocacy efforts, and share knowledge and innovations. The campaign starts on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

As part of last year’s 16 Days campaign, VAWG Partnerships participated in a range of activities to place a spotlight on the issue of violence against women and girls, including Reclaim the Night marches, local community events, art exhibitions, and White Ribbon pledges. In Scotland, the National Violence Against Women Network develops an annual toolkit of resources and a national theme for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

The theme ‘Imagine a Scotland without Violence Against Women and Girls’ was first used in the 2023 campaign. In West Dunbartonshire we want to invite you to imagine a West Dunbartonshire without Violence Against Women and Girls and reflect on what would be different in a Scotland where violence against women and girls is eradicated.
