Kinship Allowances will be paid to all formal kinship carers where the child/young person has a ‘looked after’ status and where a child/young person was ‘looked after’ on his/her 16th Birthday up until age of 18 years old.
Kinship allowances will also be paid to all informal kinship carers, this is where the child is a ‘non-looked after’ child and is the subject of a Kinship Care Order, and who was previously ‘looked after’ by virtue of having been placed in Kinship Care with involvement from the local authority; or is a child/young person who has been assessed through a multi-agency assessment as being at risk of becoming ‘looked after’, up until the child/young person’s 18th Birthday.
