Young Family Support Service provides early intervention and support to families with young children, aiming to improve outcomes for children.

The support is provided by 7 Young Family Support Workers based within the health visiting teams and 4 Early Education and Child Care Outreach Workers based in Auchnacraig EECC, Clydebank EECC, Ferryfield EECC and Meadowview EECC.

To access the service

  • Family must reside within West Dunbartonshire
  • Family must have child under 5 years of age
  • Family in agreement of referral
  • Family in need of support

Families can be referred by any agency e.g. school and nursery staff, health visitors and social workers 

Young Family support Workers and Outreach Workers work in the family home and in the nursery working with parents/carers on specific issues. The Young Family Support Worker, for example, may support a parent to access universal and specialist services, introduce play@home, help establish household routines, or help with the bonding process through things like baby massage. Examples of support includes parenting, helping parents/carers understand age and stage of development and appropriate play activities to enhance development, support parents/carers develop a positive relationship with their child and help to develop secure attachments.

The service is co-ordinated by the Parenting Support Team Leader within West Dunbartonshire, who you can make referrals to.
