Whatever your professional role, you play an important part in protecting adults at risk of harm in West Dunbartonshire. As a professional, you have the following responsibilities:

  • to be aware of your organisation’s adult protection policies and procedures
  • to be alert to indicators of concern in adults you come into contact with
  • to respond to concerns you have about an adult by acting in accordance with your organisation’s procedures.

If you suspect an adult may be at risk of harm, you have a duty to report this. You should do so without delay either to your line manager, to Social Work Services or to the Police.

Remember, it is important that you do not make promises you cannot keep. For example if an adult asks you not to tell anyone else, you cannot agree to this.

National Hoarding Awareness week takes place in May every year and has three key objectives:

  • Spread more widely an awareness of hoarding facts.
  • Promote greater understanding and acceptance across those who can influence change through education.
  • Encourage key influencers to support and promote at key moments.

With positive engagement Hoarding Awareness Week will:

  • Highlight the need for finding and training those who can support people who hoard in the community.
  • Find new sponsors in the corporate world.
  • Encourage greater partnership working to assess, support and resolve cases where people who demonstrate a tendency to hoard or clutter are identified

Each year the National Involvement pack is updated and materials is made available at the link below to support in raising awareness of hoarding across teams, service areas and networks.

Please share and discuss at team meetings and development sessions to help raise awareness.
