Domestic abuse happens in many different ways, and it can be hard to realise what you're going through is actually abuse. If you are frightened or concerned about the way a partner, ex-partner or family member is treating you, there are organisations out there ready to help.

Scotland’s Domestic Abuse and Forced Marriage Helpline provides support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their helpline supports anyone experiencing domestic abuse or forced marriage, as well as their family members, friends, colleagues and professionals who support them. They provide a confidential, sensitive service to anyone who calls them. You can call the helpline on 0800 027 1234, you can also message them through text/WhatsApp on 07401 288595 and email them on helpline@sdafmh.org.uk.
Fear Free offers a range of support to anyone from the LGBT+ community, including safety planning, emotional support, advocacy, mentoring, and practical support with housing, employment/education, and assistance to access appropriate benefits. Their helpline is for LGBT+ people experiencing abuse or violence, such as hate crime, domestic abuse, sexual violence, so-called “conversion therapy” or any other kind of abuse. They offer emotional support, provide information and can help you to explore your options, depending on your needs. The helpline is also open to friends, family members and professionals who might be concerned about an LGBT+ person who is facing abuse. Their website has links to many organisations which can help, a learning hub to support with different issues, and they run a project on LGBT domestic abuse in Scotland, focused on helping service providers help people who are experiencing abuse.
